BLACKLAND RECIPE
Garlic Shallot Chili Crisp Ranch Dip
Fresh dill and chives bring a familiar ranch flavor to this creamy dip, with Garlic Shallot Chili Crisp adding savory aromatics and a red finishing swirl.
About 1 1/2 cups; 12 servings of 2 tablespoons. Yield is approximate before optional thinning or variations.
Timing note: 30 minutes required chilling; included in the 40 min total.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup (180 g) sour cream
- 1/4 cup (55 g) mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) cultured buttermilk, plus 1 to 3 tablespoons for the optional dressing variation
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh chives
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh dill
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons BLACKLAND Garlic Shallot Chili Crisp, divided
- Diamond Crystal kosher salt, to taste, only if needed
Instructions
- Whisk the sour cream, mayonnaise, and 1/4 cup buttermilk until smooth. Stir in the chives, dill, lemon juice, and black pepper.
- Stir the chili crisp in its jar to distribute the oil and solids. Fold 1 tablespoon into the ranch; keep the remaining 1 tablespoon for finishing.
- Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. The herbs should flavor the base and the dip should coat a vegetable without running off. Taste with the food you plan to dip, then add salt only if needed.
- Spoon into a bowl and swirl the reserved 1 tablespoon chili crisp across the surface just before serving. For the optional dressing variation, loosen the chilled base as described below before adding this finish.
Serving Suggestions
These are serving ideas; accompaniments are prepared separately and are not included in the sauce yield or timing.
- Set out with cucumber, carrot, and bell-pepper sticks or ridged potato chips.
- Spoon alongside hot potato wedges.
- Use as a dip for pizza crusts.
- Serve with prepared chicken tenders.
Optional Variations
- For dressing, whisk 1 to 3 tablespoons additional buttermilk into the full batch, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it pours in a steady ribbon. This increases the yield.
- For a dill-forward ranch, increase the listed dill from 1 tablespoon to 2 tablespoons; keep the chives unchanged.
Storage & Make-Ahead
Refrigerate in a covered container at 40°F (4°C) or below and use within 3 days. The 30-minute chill is part of the recipe; for make-ahead serving, mix up to 1 day ahead and add the reserved chili crisp at serving.
Stir if a little liquid separates. Serve cold; reheating is unnecessary. Refrigerate within 2 hours of preparation or serving, or within 1 hour above 90°F (32°C).
Contains milk and egg from the cultured dairy and standard mayonnaise. Serving chips and chicken tenders are separate foods and may add other allergens.
Garlic Shallot Chili Crisp supplies the savory garlic-and-shallot character, so this ranch needs no garlic or onion powder.
